"The Photo Club"
Created as the more sophisticated side of the New York based Staple Clothing Company, 'STPL' recently presented their Spring 09 lookbook. Moving away from their foundations in graphic t-shirts, this line was seen as serving the purpose of showcasing the more mature aesthetic of the brand. The concept of the shoot was in fact of a photographer shooting on set. As such the crew had to set up the studio for a shoot, and then set up for another photo shoot to photograph the original. No doubt rather a confusing explanation to a simple concept, however the outcome speaks for itself, so to speak.
The collection was made up of finely constructed cut-and-sew garments. The clean cut aesthetic served to provide the clothing a simple yet practical design. Although the pieces in themselves are not groundbreaking in terms of design or concept, the fine attention to detail and overall quality of the garments was fascinating. Ostensibly small decisions such as the finish of the interior seaming or webbing of the jacket side vents provided the evidence for a wonderfully thought out and considered approach to each garment. I have deep respect for designers who pay such attention their work, creating a definite and appreciated functionality.
Thank you all so, so much for your wonderful comments, I shall try to get back to you all as soon as I possibly can.
