The Lighter Side of Life

Taking inspiration from Miami in the 1970s Japanese brand, Roen, recently released their Spring/Summer 09 Lookbook. During the '70s, Miami played host to the wild parties and fun excursions of the mega rich and vast array of celebrities. Roen looked to the period as one of freedom, experimentation and relaxation, a viewpoint which is clearly expressed in both the collection itself, and the photography for the lookbook.

The clothing plays out as a modern reinterpretation of the fashion at the time, yet far from looking like costumes or simply outdated garments, the collection manages to look fresh, modern and relevant all at the same time. The relaxed silhouettes and simple cottons and linens allow for a laid back and comfortable look. Similarly, the worn in denim jeans, white linen suits and flowing oversized shirts give the collection a decidedly summery feel. Indeed many of the pieces seem to have been designed specifically for being one's main garment, of that type, for the entirety of the summer period. The actual photography for the lookbook also helped to make the concept more easily accessible. The casual party snaps allow for the clothing to breath and move in their suggested environment, with the surrounding empty bottles and tousled hair finishing the looks perfectly.

What are your thoughts on the lookbook?

Apologies for the delay in replying to all of your wonderful comments, my health has been quite poorly for the past few days, however I shall definitely try to get back to you all as soon as possible.
