Lower East Side you say?
The romanticised ideal of Lower East Side fashion is that of timeless yet fresh basic garment pieces. Taking this inspiration, designers Chrissie Miller and Madeleine von Froomer, created the latest Spring 09 collection for streetwear brand, Sophomore. The company, which started under Miller as a simple custom t-shirt retailer, has recently expanded to focusing on full collections of contemporary sportswear. Sophomore sought to create simple basics, which took on the task of imbibing that timeless New York, Lower East Side aesthetic.
I decided to share their latest lookbook, simply because I am always drawn to designers who work on producing their version of clothing basics. For me, you can gain the best understanding of a designer, from their approach to theses basics. Indeed one can get a feel for the difference between Alexander Wang and Rick Owens, simply from their individual takes on the white t-shirt. As such, I found this collection quite interesting. Basics never go 'out' of style, however I think that finding the 'right' basics for oneself is never an easy task. I must admit that I am most drawn to the torn jeans modelled in this collection for myself.
What are your thoughts on the collection?
