I Save You Big Money...Again!

Fashion is by its very definition designed to be of the moment.  Anything which is no longer of the moment can no longer constitute as fashion, it transforms then into that most feared of beings, last season's trend.  Years after a fashion trend has enjoyed popularity, it may reemerge for an audience who view it not with fear, but with a curious sense of nostalgia, one which often obscures the fact that they are too young to actually remember it the first time around.  However a fashion trend requires a certain span of time before it can be renewed and rethought.

In an environment as blisteringly fast as fashion, where even the calendar is a year ahead, one can often forget to simply stop and look.  You would be surprised what by you may find...

See that?  Yes, that twirl of silver with a plug on the end.  The thing that looks like you might wear it to a fancy dress party...were your costume that of someone who did not actually have the time to prepare a costume, so they just took some tin foil, a bunch of random wires and some sellotape when running out of the house in order to make something in the car on the way there.  It is not even like they took an important wire, no Ethernet cable, no USB cable, but one of those spare component RGB leads that you are sure somehow works with your television, but do not actually seem to need it, so it ends up by the computer just in case you figure out a use for it.

I happen to have a spare component lead in my possession.  The end of the lead has three of those plugs.  Not one - three.  In three different colours, so I could make three of those bracelets.  But do you know what?  It would be a waste of a perfectly good lead.

I happen to be a student and in my pencil case I happen to carry a USB stick.  In fact most people I know own a USB stick.  It is pretty much a necessary item if you use computers.  But do you know what?  Never have I thought it was a cool fashion accessory.

The USB stick I own came with a lanyard in the packaging.  It actually came with something designed to help me wear it around my neck.  Despite that curious coincidence, the idea of doing has never really crossed my mind.  You can pick up a USB stick for close to pennies these days.  You would not actually even need a working one for the purposes of this necklace.  Just take a broken one and pop off the plastic case.  In fact, do you know what would look better?  Take a metal washer and pop some waxed cotton cord through it.  Cheap, cheerful and makes a pretty normal necklace.  There I just saved you money that could be better spent elsewhere.

"Thank you so much dear...a robotic nipple ring is exactly what I wanted...how on earth did you guess?"
