Dr. Martens: First Look Part 2

Continuing on from my previous post is a first look at the new releases from the Dr. Martens womens collection. Along with the familiar favourites there were a number of new and exciting materials and finishes. I have to admit that I actually enjoyed the womens collection slightly more than the mens. That being said however, I think quite a few of the designs could be comfortably worn by men (well, provided you can squeeze into a UK9 or smaller).

The first line up was a display of impressive glossy surfaces, which, as many of you know, I am more than somewhat partial to. There were also a number of interesting textures which seemed to call out for fingertips to trace across.

Alongside the smooth patent offerings were a number of floral relief designs, which although perhaps subtle in reproduction stood out nicely in person. I liked the fact that the designs were in relief as opposed to embossed, and that the floral design was so delicate against the strong design of the boot. I think that is perhaps what I enjoy most about the boots within the womens collection by Dr. Martens, in that there is usually a wonderful juxtaposition of design elements, of gentle and strong, that create quite the statement.

I do love anything shiny, and these metallics with their warming luster were certainly alluring. There is also something about how the metallic-finish leather creases and the way the light plays off of it that is quite unique and attractive. I would actually gladly wear a pair of the gold boots (although I still want a pair of the lower profile metallic Dr. Martens x Raf Simons boots).

U**s eat your heart out. On the far left is a real pelt shearling boot, with double layered offerings alongside it. Luxury, warmth, comfort...and not necessarily a direction I would have expected from Dr. Martens, the surprise of which I really liked. Although I have to admit that I like the darker brown of the imitation versions slightly more than the natural tan.

YUM.

That is all.

(I am secretly hoping for a Dr. Martens x Liberty collaboration in the near future)

As much as I love my florals (which is quite a lot), when I first looked around the room of both the mens and womens releases, I was actually drawn immediately to these flocked polka dot designs. Although they may technically be a design for women, these were my favourite by far. They had a fun and funky, slightly Comme des Garçons, feel about them that just made me smile.

Clothes are about feeling (and looking) good. If they make you happy that is all that matters.
