Paolo Roversi is one of those photographers whose work always leaves me with goosebumps. Under the instruction of British photographer, Lawrence Sackman, Roversi would learn that "your tripod and your camera must be well-fixed, but your eyes and mind should be free". And he truly uses that advice in his shoots, managing to create visually stunning work that continue to inspire in their imagining. There is a true subtlety to his work, yet it manages to exist besides a wonderfully rich visual depth. I particularly enjoy the fact that he still works with large format film. And indeed, his trademark use of the 8x10" Polaroid film actually began during his shooting for the Christian Dior beauty campaign in 1980.

His style of shooting, mainly in his own studio, and commitment to large format black and white photography, allow him to create stunningly romantic and ethereal works. Indeed, it is work that I admire greatly - the lightness with which he manages to capture both the model and the clothing on film, is a true inspiration. She is simultaneously entwined and seperate from the photograph as a whole, and that delicate visual balance is a magical thing to behold. This shoot reads to me like a beautiful dream. A beautiful dream from which you awaken in a daze and try with all of your might to commit to memory, lest it slip from your outstretched fingers like sand. It is an experience you only wish you could share with others.
