The Shape Of It
Started back in 2006, Cleveland based streetwear brand, Wrath Arcane, have gone from strength to strength with their seasonal collections. Speaking of their label and inspirations, the duo of Brian O'Neill and Sean Bilovecky said that "...people seem to have forgotten the fact that changing their environment for the better will change their lives for the better. We design clothes that both embody this idea and also demonstrate our minimalist approach to contemporary streetwear. We want our customers to feel that they are buying more than just a trendy piece of sportswear."
Stating why their lookbooks never feature the face of their model, the two wrote that "we never want a model to sell our line. That's why we hide their faces. Too many brands are 90% model, 10% clothing... and 0% about making our industry better."
With their latest Spring 09 offering, the emphasis was on creative structure and cut applied to their signatory minimalist approach. The decision to use jersey and cotton, both breathable and comfortable fabrics, which are well employed in sportswear, was given a wonderful twist in their application. Creating more formal and tailored outerwear with these materials allowed for a very unique finish. The wider patterns of the garments were dichotomously paired with more fitted constructions giving quite an appealing and interesting silhouette and shape to the pieces. Oddly for the spring season the colour palette was rather muted and plain, however this only serves to further emphasis the sportswear roots.
