A Fresh Look

One could easily be forgiven for thinking that within the ranks of Mackintosh, with their focus on traditional craftsmanship and two hundred years of tailoring heritage, that 'change' is not a widely used word. However quite to the contrary, the designers at Mackintosh as of late have been slowly and cleverly rejuvenating the brand and its overall look to appeal. They have sought to appeal both to their more mature clientele but also to tackle a newer, more youthful audience.

These latest Spring releases may be based on the iconic single breasted Mackintosh, yet the addition of colour and stream lining of the aesthetic, provide a clearly younger and fresher feel. Given the inherent dangers of reinventing a classic for a new market, I was excited to see their attempts for this season. Although reinventing a brand can be a very precarious process, I believe that this new direction works perfectly.

There is a clear and evident use of Mackintosh's classic design, yet altered slightly without losing the character of the pieces. Thankfully, alongside these releases, the brand are also keen to promote and continue with their more traditional pieces. Although it is admittedly tough for traditional tailoring to appeal to a younger market, I believe that designs such as these Spring releases could being a whole new dynamic to Mackintosh. I am personally drawn to both the classic and rejuvenated looks, however I do wonder whether this would be the case with my contemporaries.

What are your thoughts on the Spring releases?
