Formal Friday, Sir?

I have always thought to myself that one day in the future when I have a family and children, I will naturally fall into wearing nothing but suits during the weekdays out of my own decision. For most men it seems to be a hassle to have to wear suits, however for me there is nothing more enjoyable. I would decide on which suit to wear according to the season and what I was doing for the day. The decisions between a fine combed grey woolen suit worn upon a pressed white shirt, with a Prince of Wales check tie and red pocket square, or a thicker gauge two button navy suit upon a white shirt, woven navy tie with silver tie pin, and three pronged pocket square would be ones I would savour. Obviously along with my suits, I would have a whole array of collar pins, tie bars, pocket squares and the like for when appropriate. I would also be sure to wear tailor made hats along with each suit, and indeed I actually plan to buy one in the near future.

I have never been one to wear suits straight off the rail, and I feel that the small alterations made by an experienced tailor really does make the difference between feeling that the suit is not quite right, to being superbly comfortable and just feeling amazing in that suit. This two button black suit is one of my favourite - slim fitting, with the jacket breaking at just the right point, with pockets slanted to mirror the shoulders and nipped slightly at the waist, giving a beautiful silhouette. I did however have to have the sleeves and trouser legs let out and hemmed again to accomodate for my height. I also had the darts on the back of the jacket altered slightly to come in slightly lower down, again as a result of my height.

I decided to wear this suit out for a short walk early this morning. The sky was a brilliant blue with what a landscape painter would describe to be the ideal amount of cloud cover. Upon my white shirt, I opted to wear a grey, white and red tie that belongs to my father, and was actually bought for him by my mother before they were married. I went for a sweater as opposed to wearing my trench coat atop the suit, and it provided just enough warmth for the crisp morning air. Due to the sweater making the look less formal, I decided not to be overly elaborate with the presentation of my red silk pocket square, which is oddly darker than it appears above. Continuing with the vein of red running throughout, I went with red socks on my black brogues.

(An added bonus is that nothing makes you feel better when you are ill than wearing a beautiful suit!)
