An English Landscape

"My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods. Time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees - my love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath - a source of little visible delight, but necessary."

- Catherine Earnshaw
(Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë)

Taking inspiration from traditional English tailoring, Danish based Bertoni showcased a wonderfully poetic Fall 09 Collection. The somewhat casual approach of the menswear, with its use of superbly soft flannel and wool, allowed for a very gentle character to the collection. The comfortable and cosy fabrics, coupled with the grey tones and punches of deep red evoked a late summer's twilight. The darker, yet still beautifully warm evenings punctuated with grey clouds and ablaze at the corners with the emerging autumnal colours were not hard to imagine. The somewhat minimal and clean cut construction of the looks dichotomously felt comforting when provided in such a warm manner.

The womenswear again took inspiration from the historic and slighty more poetic notion of rural clothing. The decidedly feminine clothing was clearly rooted from an inspiration in menswear, yet with a creative play on proportions. The more relaxed silhouette contrasted with the slimmer looks of the men, yet both evoked a gentle and soft manner. The main focus in terms of construction lay in the wonderful use of pleating. The wider silhouette provided by this, when paired with colours such as the dusty rose and blue winter sky, allowed for a more romantic feel to the womenswear throughout.
