Dickie Greenleaf for Dunhill

Photography by Greg Williams

Based on Patricia Highsmith's 1955 novel of the same name, the 1999 adaption of The Talented Mr. Ripley has to be one of my favourite contemporary movies. Starring the likes of Jude Law, Matt Damon and Gywenth Paltrow, the movie is set against the beautiful surroundings of 1950s Italy. Narrating the story of a young and astounding impersonator named Tom Ripley, the movie takes us on a thrilling and often unsettling journey as he tries to make the wonderful life of Dickie Greenleaf's his own.

The chosen locations throughout the film are visually sumptuous and made futher more so due to the wonderful cinematography. The movie also caters to those with a love of fashion, indeed the stylists managed to gain a nomination for Best Costume Design at the Academy Awards. Damon and Law's characters, of Tom Ripley and Dickie Greenleaf respectively, embody the effortlessly cool and elegant menswear of the 1950s. Not to be overpowered by the stunning wardrobe choices, the duo also provide spellbinding performances.

As such I was pleasantly surprised when a more mature Jude was announced as the face of London based brand, Dunhill, in the latter half of 2007. Since the first campaign during the first quarter of 2008, the choice has left me pleasantly surprised with each release. Not only are the photographs beautifully made, the styling is equally so. Each time I see these I simply remember Jude's early role in Mr. Ripley.
