More camera-ness

(my mother always tells me kohl is good for the eyes - it is often applied to children in Egypt, the Middle East and India in order to strengthen their eyes)

The Yashica Reflex 35 J, 35mm SLR with M42 lens mount, was manufactured in Nagana, Japan in 1962. This model was Yashica's first attempt at an SLR, and would go on to be branded as the Penta J, the start of the J series (not to be confused with their J series of Rangefinders).

I was fortunate to be able to get this beautiful condition piece, with original lens and manual as well as a selection of other additions. The camera came with an accessory bag, in which the original leather, red velvet lined, case fits easily. The secondary lens you see is a 135mm Sigma zoom lens, also a M42 mount. Luckily both lenses and the glare reduction lens also fit on my Zenit, as does the dual lens hood, which acts to eliminate light flairs. I was also able to get an original lens cleaning kit from 1962, and admittedly I am dubious of using the chemical bottle after such a long time, however am pleased to see it is still mostly full.

No doubt the whole kit is probably worth far more than I paid for it, which was actually under the price I pay for a Vogue magazine, and even when including postage, less than three copies. Indeed it seems that the old addage is true...
