High Function

I always wonder what the future of fashion will be, indeed the long envisioned ideas of technologically advanced garments have long been a topic for science fiction. From Marty McFly's self drying jumpsuit, to the futuristic gizmos and gadgetry that were second nature to The Jetsons. Whilst the most remarkable of technological advances in fashion have been far more subtle than those created by writers and artists, it seems we come ever closer to those whimsical and fascinating inventions.

With their latest Harajuku exclusive line, 'High Function', Oakley have created clothing that make childhood ideas all the more real. Whilst there are by now a number of brands that have created winter wear fused with the latest music player technology, Oakley's latest designs stood out to me. Their classic winter designs are far from being gimcrack or gaudy, their unassuming quality and functionality is what I find interesting. Hidden within are actually high tech waterproof fabrics and auxillary ports and hidden pockets for the gadgets of today's snowboarder. For some reason this understated yet technological fashion is far more appealing than the designs of movie magic...albeit not as cool.
