Coming Soon SS09

Announced during September of last year was Yohji Yamamoto's additional line entitled Coming Soon. Aimed at a younger consumer base, the idea is to create affordable yet elegant pieces for those wanting to upgrade from their usual streetwear, whilst still remaining within the Yamamoto vision.

Unlike his main line, Coming Soon is focused more on the individual pieces, allowing the owner to mix and match garments with their other clothing. This approach is no doubt somewhat odd to fans, W Magazine stated that "it’s a departure for Yamamoto, whose followers are so devoted that they often wear his designs from head to toe." Indeed, CEO of Yamamoto, Keizo Tamoto, when talking of the main line said that “if you buy a Yohji jacket, you need Yohji pants and maybe you need also a Yohji shirt and shoes...it’s a very dangerous line.”

These images are of the upcoming SS09 collection, and I must admit I am excited to see them. The more affordable pieces from the intellectual mind of Yamamoto are just as creative and inspiring as his high end garments.
