A World Of Collars

So this was actually yesterday's outfit, however unfortunately I did not have an opportunity to post. I had yet another doctor to see, and the results left me with somewhat mixed feelings, however I am ever the optimist.

The shirt actually has a bib front, with a silk and cotton blend, so that my skin colour comes through it. The collar could be considered as a 'mandarin collar', essentially a Western take on the Manchurian style. The mandarin collar typically rises up around one or two inches, with the edges of the collar on either side slightly overlapping, in this case with a button tab. The specific style actually has mainly military connations. However there is also a secondary genesis to this collar, that of the 'band collar', where a detachable collar was actually intended for use. These two styles are if we consider the collar from a purely Western viewpoint.

This style of collar is often also considered as a 'Nehru collar', named in the West after Jawaharlal Nehru, the Prime Minister of India from 1947 to 1964. He was a key figure in the independence of India and the first and longest serving Prime Minister. The specific style of jacket he wore was actually created in India in the 1940s as a formal jacket, with the literal Hindi and Urdu translation being 'coat with closed neck' (original transliteration: 'Bund Gale Ka Coat'). However the collar style in itself is thought to have come around with the hook style closing in the 18th century in South Asia. The style was found in that context in the 'Sherwani', essentially a fusion of the traditional 'shalwaar kameez' and the British frock coat. Since then the Sherwani has become akin to the national dress for men in Pakistan, worn on formal occasions, most prominently for the groom at weddings.

On a side note the superbly dressed and wonderful Ashleigh of i am ashleigh tagged me for the musical tag:

"Post a song/or part of a song that represents you, or part of you"

So I actually decided to choose two songs for today, maybe bending the rules slightly...

The first song is: Angels by Augustana

The second song is: Addiction ft. Cassie by Ryan Leslie

And because I love seeing the creative process in action, and more specifically because seeing Ryan Leslie dancing around to the beat made me laugh:

To continue the tag I have decided to pass it on to these amazingly wonderful bloggers:

Marta of With Love...
Fashion Dreamer of Fashion Daydreams
Coco of Coco's Tea Party

Currently playing: Favourite Girl - Marques Houston
